The Wayne County Food Rescue program is designed to transfer good food to those in need. This program will offer this service to restaurants, institutions and community events that have leftovers available.
The program makes use of four parts to serve the hungry.
First, and most importantly, we ask those that have quality leftover food to donate feel free to do so. This begins the process of Food Rescue.
Second, the Wayne County Food Rescue program arranges transportation of donations by either volunteers or by the Depot Taxi Company. This allows us to arrange for donation pick-up at any time of the day or night. To assist in creating pick-up schedules and as a service to the donors, we make available a small freezer they can put on their premises to hold donations.
Third, we either take donations directly to social agencies or it is taken to the Circle U Help Center. There is is stored in freezers, refrigeration or shelves as needed. Food integrity is important to us and we are inspected by the county health department.
Finally, donations held at Circle U are distributed to area social agencies that feed the needy in our county. So far we have arrangements in place to service the Circle U Help Center, Rock Solid Ministries, The Salvation Army, The Hope House, the Genesis Women's Shelter and Cross Road Recovery Center.
